Map Control Panel - Geofence Setup

Modified on Wed, 09 Oct 2019 at 11:50 AM

The Geofence Setup tab displays tools to create geofences (zones). Geofences are created to alert the user when the device enters or exits the area set by the Geofence. When setting up notifications, the user has the option to be alerted on entrance, exit, or both.

To get to the Geofence Setup:

  1. From the Device List, click on the device you would like to create a geofence for.
  2. From the Device Dashboard click "Live Map" at the top-right section of the page.
  3. On the left side of the screen on the Device Map, click the bar toward the bottom-left of the screen that says "Geofence Setup"

Create a Geofence:

  1. First, click the "New" button.
  2. Select Circle or Draw.

Circle:

  • Find the location on the map by either entering an address in the search bar, or by dragging and zooming the map to the correct location. NOTE: Be sure to set the zoom level so you have a clear view of the area you are setting the geofence in.
  • Click the center point of the area to geofence.
  • The geofence circle will appear on the map (see image below). There are five handles on the circle. The four outer handles allow the user to resize the circle. The center handle allow the user to drag the circle to a different location.
  • Once your circle size and location are set, continue to step 3.

  • Once the shape is complete, drag the handles to adjust the shape, then continue to step 3.

Create a Geofence (continued):

  1. Now that the geofence shape or circle is set, complete the information below:
  • Enabled: Checked means the geofence is enabled, unchecked means the geofence is disabled, but will still be saved to your account.
  • Name: Enter a name for the fence.
  • Description (optional): Enter a description of the fence (for example "John's House").
  • Apply To: The Apply To selection offers the ability to use this geofence for either "This Unit" (the unit selected on the Device Map), "This Group" (the entire group this device is assigned to), or "All Units" (all units on the entire account).
  • Fence Type: The Fence Type selection offers either "Keep Out" or "Keep In". These options set the color of the fence, as well as the alert descriptions. Alert descriptions such as "IN VIOLATION" and "ALL CLEAR" relate to whether the geofence is a Keep Out fence or a Keep In fence.
  • Radius (Circle fence only): The radius option allows the user to input an exact radius of the fence in Feet. However, if the user sets the size with the handles on the map, this value will be set automatically. NOTE: Changing the auto-generated radius will change the size of the circle previously set.
  • Scheduling (optional): The schedule section allows the user to set a schedule for the fence. Select the days of the week by checking the box for each. Then, select a start and end time for the schedule (for 24 hours leave start time and end time blank). Enable or disable the schedule by checking or unchecking "Enable Schedule".
  1. Next, click the Save button, then verify the new geofence is showing in the "Edit Fences" box.
  2. Your geofence is now complete.
