NightOwl Reporting Details

The following table describes each of the report "call reasons" the NightOwl is capable of sending. These reports are shown on the Device Dashboard as well as the Full History page.

To view these reports:

1. Login to your Datablaze account on any device with an internet web browser by going to https://my.datablaze.com/activate or CLICK HERE (Google Chrome recommended for best experience).

2. Click the menu icon at the top-left of the screen.

3. Click "Devices"

4. Click on the name of the device you would like to view.

5. You should now see the Device Dashboard. This screen provides recent history and is updated automatically.

6. To view a full searchable list of device history, click the "Full History" button below the Live Device History on the Device Dashboard. Alternatively, you can click the menu icon then click "History".


Call Reason

Description

Active GPS Report/Location Information*







*Location Information is included in multiple report types. This data is noted by underlined text.

The Active GPS Report offers the following details with each report. The interval at which the NightOwl sends the location report is set by the user from the Device Dashboard. For more information see the "Sending Commands" article. When the NightOwl senses the ignition is turned off, the device will stop reporting locations. However, the user may still be able to request a single locate from the Device Dashboard:


GPS Position/Location: Displays the address and/or the GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) of the device at the time of this report.

Speed:The current speed at the time of the location (mph/kph).

HeadingThe current heading from (0-360 degrees).

SatellitesThis shows the number of satellites currently in view when the NightOwl located (0-24). Typically, anything over 3 satellites should produce a locate. The more satellites in view the higher the accuracy of the location reported.

GPS UTC TimeThe date and time when this location was acquired (in UTC time)

Signal StrengthSignal Strength shows the strength of the cellular coverage at the time of the location (0-100%)

Vehicle ID Report

The Vehicle ID report is the result of the NightOwl collecting the vehicles VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). 


VIN: The vehicle's VIN is displayed here.

GPS UTC Time: The date and time this Vehicle ID report was generated.

Ignition On/Off

The Ignition On/Off report is sent when the NightOwl senses the vehicles ignition has been turned on or off. 


Location Information: All location information described above.

Odometer (when available): The Odometer data is reported when the NightOwl is capable of collecting this information from the vehicle. Odometer is the total number of miles traveled on the vehicle.

NOTE: Some vehicles may not be capable of sending the Odometer value.

Ignition State: The ignition state will display either On or Off.

Idle Time Report

The Idle Time report is sent when a vehicle is running and not moving for more than 60 seconds. 


Location Information: All location information described above.

Odometer (when available): The Odometer data is reported when the NightOwl is capable of collecting this information from the vehicle. Odometer is the total number of miles traveled on the vehicle.

Idle Time: This displays the number of minutes the vehicle was idling (running, but not moving).

Left/Right Turn

The turning reports are much like Active GPS reports. The only difference is that these locations happened while turning either left or right. 


Location Information: All location information described above.

Call Reason: Either Left Turn or Right Turn

Hard Acceleration

The Hard Acceleration report is sent when the NightOwl senses that the vehicle is accelerating at a rapid, unsafe rate.


Location Information: All location information described above.

Odometer (when available): The Odometer data is reported when the NightOwl is capable of collecting this information from the vehicle. Odometer is the total number of miles traveled on the vehicle.

Hard Acceleration: Will show "Detected" when an acceleration event occurs.

Hard Braking

The Hard Braking report is sent when the NightOwl senses that the vehicle is braking at a rapid, unsafe rate.


Location Information: All location information described above.

Odometer (when available): The Odometer data is reported when the NightOwl is capable of collecting this information from the vehicle. Odometer is the total number of miles traveled on the vehicle.

Hard Braking: Will show "Detected" when an acceleration event occurs.

Device Installed/RemovedThe Device Installed/Removed report is sent when the NightOwl senses that it has either been installed or removed from the OBD-II port in the vehicle.


Location Information: All location information described above.

Odometer (when available): The Odometer data is reported when the NightOwl is capable of collecting this information from the vehicle. Odometer is the total number of miles traveled on the vehicle.

Device Connection: Will show either "Installed" or "Removed" when the event occurs.
